Another success story the WKA are held their 2009 World Kickboxing Championships in beautiful Andalusia Spain in the Barceló Beach Resort Punta Umbria, Huelva which is located along the Gulf of Cádiz. Expecting a turn down in numbers due to the world recession they have been pleasantly surprised with the turn out of 29 countries and over 1000 competitors taking part.
The opening ceremony was spectacular with the major of the city watching and welcoming the athletes, trainer’s coaches and officials filing past with flags flying into the giant auditorium.
Klaus Nonnemacher WKA president welcomed all and invited the promotion staff, country presidents, referees and officials to the podium for an ovation.

We are proud to report that the WKA Summer camp 2009 was very successful. For the first time WKA World President Klaus Nonnemacher attended the camp, having prepared a variety of seminars in pointfighting, K1, Thai boxing and last but not least a special seminar for both amateur and advanced referees.
WKA USA North American Combat Sports Championships 2009
On June 26th, 2009, 120 competitors from almost 50 gyms in 17 states lined up to weigh-in for the 2009 WKA North American Combat Sports Championships. Friday evening’s check-in and weigh-ins proceeded smoothly, and fighters stepped off the scale to prepare for the next day’s tournament. ...

The last qulification tournament for the german national team was a big succses.
Teams from Belgium, Swiss, France, Irland and Italy support the championship with great fighters.
The event ends with a greast party, live music and free drinks.

The 29th Dacascos European Open Championships held on June 6-7, 2009 in
Hamburg, Germany drew competitions from the European community’s Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Italy, as well as from the America´s, Middle East, Asia, and Mediterranean and from North Africa. A truly mixture of styles and cultural exchanges. The strong Team behind the tournament, since 1980: Sigung Michael Timmermann, Sigung Christian Wulf, Sigung Joern Tiedge, Sigung Dasos Efstathiadis and Sifu Winfried Joszko.
The June 6, Saturday began with the adults that competed in all normal divisions as in
other national tournaments. With a packed house, the nearly 1,500 entries for both
days, with the high energy level of the crowd, kept these two days filled with extreme
Powered action and exciting entertainment.

While 70% of the participants were of the Kajukenbo system, many of the top fighters of
other styles held their own when three time defending Grand Champion, Dirk Hilgert,
one of the very best fighters in Europe and a five time World Champion from the World
Karate Association (WKA) took on top seeded WHKD fighter Matthias Schlakat from WHKD Wedel to a 6 to 5-point win, claiming a four in a row victory for the European Open Championships. Not to be out done, the Women’s Grand Champion was won by freestyle fighter, Olga Kire from Obermurschel, South Germany, when she defeated Marion Sand Kajukenbo-
WHKD stylist from Segeberg, Northern Germany to a one-point marginal win. In both
fights, the pace was fast and furious and their skill levels were displayed why they are at
the top. Both Form Grand Champions were won by Kajukenbo WHKD stylist, Deike
Fismer in the Women’s Division and Christos Bakas for the Men’s Division.
On June 7th, Sundays highlight witnessed the European renowned “Dacascos Show
Team” led by Sigung Christian Wulf, performing their 15 minute award winning show. A
repeat performance as they did in January 2009 in Beijing, China on Chinas National
Television for the Kids and Junior section of the Dacascos European Championships.
A treat that drew a standing ovation when Sigung Christian asked nearly 300 of the kids to
participate in their final number of a joint form set to the exciting and high spirited music
of “Rocky”.
Next year will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Dacascos European Championships
and 35th year of Kajukenbo WHKD in Europe tentatively set for the beginning of June
2010. Plans are being made to host a bigger event with a few more added divisions with
a planned group coming in from the USA, and a special added attraction of Hawaiian

The WKA qualifiers proved to be a busy well run day. Over 110 categories were run. The Tournament was held at Haden Hill Leisure centre in the West Midlands on the 26th April.
Competitors can from all across England to try out for the England team for the WKA world championships in Spain in November.

Dear WKA member,
there have been made some changes in WKA rulebook by newly established WKA rules committee (RC). You can find up-dated version of WKA amateur official rulebook 2009 which will be apllied on WKA Worldchampionship 2009 on following web page:www.worldkickboxing.com.
WKA HQ would like to apologize for delay with publishing up-dated version of WKA rulebook which was caused partly by establishment of RC quite short time before the end of year 2008. We would like to assure you that changes in WKA rulebook for following years will be published the latest till the end of January of each year.
These are the main changes which have been made for 2009:
General part:
1. page 4 – WKA member responsibility
2. page 6 – WKA HQ
3. page 8 – Cut off date is always 30th June of calendar year in which competition is held.
4. new divisions in forms overview – extreme weapons was added
5. page 12 – overbooking: Only 3 participants from each country and for each weight-division are permitted. No overbooking is allowed, except with written consent from WKA HQ which could be given in electronic form (e-mail). WKA representative shall apply for above mentioned WKA HQ consent minimum 1 month prior the competition in written or electronic (e-mail) form.
6. page 15 – referees shall wear black trousers instead of grey
Pointfighting:
1. page 20 – referee power (4 minute rule)
2. minus points were replaced by points to opponent
3. page 21 – scoring area: Entire head and face
4. page 22,23 – new sweep definition:
A sweep is only acceptable as a legal technique if the fighter utilizes his/her front or rear leg to sweep his opponents leg and target area of sweep is opponent’s part of foot below ankle and sweep is executed with inside of foot or by spinning
sweep heel to heel.
Spinning sweep must be executed in standing position.
Opponent is swept if his/her balance is broken and at least three parts of his/her body touch the ground.
A sweep is illegal if it is done above ankle of opponent’s foot or in incorrect way in contradiction to above mentioned requirements.
5. page 24 – warnings – All Warnings for all offences (including illegal techniques, exists, etc.) are accumulative. First warning Second warning means first point is given to opponent (yellow card) Third warning means second point is given to opponent (yellow card) Fourth warning means disqualification, the fight is over (red card)
Forms:
1. music – NO LYRICS (WORDS) are allowed due to the possibility of racial comments and profanity
2. new division – extreme weapons was added
3. some other small changes were made therefore we strongly recommend to read all forms part of rulebook
Lightcontact:

Del Sampson 6th Dan has been appointed the World Vice president of semi contact and points fighting for the WKA.
A committee has been formed with the major points fighting countries of Germany, USA, England and Italy. A national and an international rating system will be developed so fighters can compete for Pro Am World Titles.
Del Sampson says “I am honoured to be given this role, Points fighting can also be thought of as a game of chess with your opponent, what we look of are good, clean solid techniques delivered with speed and prescion to the appropriate target areas to score a point. The fight is also about blocking ability as once you are scored on, your opponent has the point and you are 1 point down. The fighter must not only be able to throw explosive techniques but able to block, move and out think what the other one is to do, it’s a test of your mind, speed and technical ability.”

Disney World - Where Dreams come true
World Championship 2008 in Orlando, Florida / U.S.A.

For whom dreams are going to come true according to the Disney slogan – the dream of becoming a World Champion – will turn out in the next few days. From November 10 thru 15th the World Kickboxing and Karate Association, the largest association in fighting sports, will hold their this years Championship in Orlando, Florida / U.S.A. Teams from all over the world have come to join the competition: Canada, Brasil, England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Ukraine, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Lebanon, India, Malaysia and, of course, U.S.A.
The registration held on Sunday counts about 1.300 starts. In the evening the opening ceremony takes place in Disney’s Champion Stadium. As all nations have walked onto the field and took their seats, Paul Ingram, the WKA-president, welcomes competitors, parents and officials. After a minute of silence in memory of Remembrance Sunday, he expresses his gratitude to all those who have come here and invested a lot of time and money to make this possible. Afterwards, Ingram annonces that he is stepping down after many years of dedicated service to the WKA and hands over the Presidency to Klaus Nonnemacher, the Vice-president, who has supported him since the very start. Nonnemacher enters the stage as new president and opens the World Championship 2008, followed by a hughe fireworks in the colours of the star spangled banner.
The competition itself takes place Monday through Friday at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, which is about a 10 minute drive away from the Disney’s All Stars Sports Resort, where many teams reside. The new Jostens Sports Center measures about 44.000 sqft and holds seating for 3.000 people.
Monday through Wednesday the eliminations will take place, the finals will be held on Thursday and Friday. The disciplines to be run in Orlando are Forms, Traditional Karate, Pointfighting and Light Contact. The fighters count up to 865 with the largest nations numbering more than 100 competitors being Canada, England, Germany followed by the U.S.A. 430 competitors have come for the forms, most of the are from the U.S.A. and Canada.
The WKA World Championship of the ring sports already took place in October. It was hosted in Berlin, the Capital City of Germany. There, 33 nations came to compete with fighters that made about 250 starts.

Dear WKA Member,
I would like to inform you about our new referee system and about our to-be-introduced world-wide referee programme.
WKA is planning to organize each year a ‘super seminar‘ that will take place in 5 different countries across 5 different regions before the Worldchampionships (we would like to cover the UK, USA, Western and Central Europe, Arabic countries, and Eastern Europe). We start to arrange the first two seminares this month.
One for east Europe in english and russian language in Riga/Latvia the other for western Europe for the german language in Bregenz/ Austia
The Seminare in Riga is from 11-13 of April, 2008, Hotel Brigita (conference room), Saulkalnes iela, 11 and Sport club MEVI GYM, J. Čakstes gatve 72 Latvia
